Enjoying food

It struck me today how much I enjoy the food I eat daily. The actual food has not changed in well over a year just the serving size. Some might call how I eat a diet and think its nuts but for me it's just what I have to do to get where I want to be.

Ever since I started training for wrestling I understood my eating habits would need to change, I just didn't have the knowledge I needed. For me like many other people food is such a comfort that when I think about being on a diet I thought of sacrifice and starving.

That is completely not so....I've learned to be satisfied with all the delicious "healthy" options out there. don't get me wrong this took ten years, believe me many a day I had deams of the buffet and just wanting to be satisfied but I learned there is no food out there that will satisfy me when I get that feeling. I enjoy feeling good!

Christmas 2010 I figured it's the holidays I can indulge right??? 5 days later and a total of 35 Christmas cookies down I felt disgusting. I had to have a serious talk with myself about why I indulge to the point of uncomfort and decided then my body, head and heart all need to be on the same page. Why is my mind telling me go for it when my body is saying no more?

Once I got back home and into the swing of work, training and travel I kept in mind the little talk I have with myself. I felt great and with the help of a new trainer I was starting to get the results I wanted. I had more freedom in my diet since I was just given totals of protein, fat and carbs I had to hit in a day. I started experimenting with veggies and finding new and exciting things to do with oatmeal.

This past Christmas I was really worried with all the parties and family gatherings would I cave? Would I feel excluded from the holiday cheer without desert? Could I indulge a little and feel satisfied?

I am happy to report it was a breeze. I made smart decisions and didn't feel like I COULDNT have anything. I told myself I could have anything I wanted but I really thought about how it would make me feel after and most of the "crap" was not worth it. That's not to say I didn't eat any crap..I had one bite of three different deserts on Christmas day and was completely content.

Life is such a crazy process. I went 30 years with what I would call an un healthy relationship with food. I wish young Sara knew the things older Sara knows but that is all part of the process!

  1. What sort of things have you come up with for oatmeal? I'm dieting and have been having that for breakfast, trying to add flavor with dried fruit and honey, but it's getting boring fast.

  3. Great job Sara! I have been having that conversation with myself lately and trying to start doing better, or as you seem to be, more about moderation and healthy options. It's been a struggle, but I am getting there. Thank you for your words of wisdom on the matter. Keep up the great work!

  4. It is not a diet. It is a lifestyle choice. I hate how I feel after eating junk food or fast food so I avoid them for healthier options. It is great to hear that you are sticking to the wise and healthy food choices for good.

  5. Oatmeal to me is better savory so I cook instant with my egg whites and veggies as a sort of stir fry. I also like the taste of old fashion oatmeal dry either straight up or if I had a bit of tangy non cream based salad dressing it tastes like crackers. I sometimes just trow it dry on top of my salad and really like it dry or cooked with tuna and honey mustard.

I also forgot the idea of a "cheat meal" where you can just go nuts and eat anything does not exist. It doesn't matter how hard you work during the week putting all that crap into your body costs and to me it's not worth it.

  6. Interesting, I'd never heard of oatmeal being used like that.

  7. PREACH and Congratulations! I totally wish Young Yolanda would have told Older Yolanda a lot of things and vice verse because it's so hard at 30 to catch up and be patient, but it will all be worth it in the end. Sara Del Rey my constant inspiration.

What level of performer are you?

      Beginner
This would describe a person who has never been trained in a legitimate ring by a legitimate trainer. This description means that you are starting from square one, with no legitimate prior experience in sports entertainment. Your in-ring physical conditioning may not be up to WWE standards.

      Some Experience
This description can be used for someone who has been trained by a reputable trainer in a legitimate fashion. This description would mean that you have been trained prior to performing in front of an audience, and have some understanding of the basics of in ring fundamentals. Your in-ring physical conditioning and physique may or may not be up to WWE standards. 'Some experience' does NOT include 'backyard wrestling,' or the like.

An advanced performer would have a good grasp of fundamentals and psychology, along with in-ring conditioning and a physique that is up to WWE standards.

  11. Hopefully you go to impactwrestling which is finally fully structured and is what pro wrestling should be combo with the storytelling. TNA features their knockouts as wrestlers (not women as groupies or time restricted intermission acts) that main event on occasion with no limitations. I only watch TNA on TV and on the internet I watch the other pro wrestling company's including your matches in the independents. I would like to see you get on national TV while you are still young. Even though I wish you well whatever you end up doing. But I hope you consider TNA because its a cool product that we can see pro wrestlers just go out there and wrestle (Creative Freedom to be yourself) product in the mainstream.

  12. To get this back on track, I recently read that it takes a person with an eating disorder 7 years to change that habit.
I for one would be interested in what an example of your daily menu looks like. in the past year I have lost over 50lbs, the wife 70. Although she is diner I've got about 100 more to go and would love any idea's to mix things up as my ability to cook chicken in different ways has a limit and I need to mix it up.
    Thanks for your time.

  13. Congratulations to you and your wife. I eat the same thing every day and like you don't have any other tricks to make plain chicken more interesting. I just use it different like scrambled with eggs or cold in a salad.

  14. Hey, Sara, I took your advice and tried savory oatmetal. I mixed some instant in with potatoes, mushrooms, Mrs. Dash seasoning, and a little Swiss cheese. The oatmeal gave a nice taste and a very interesting texture. Good call!

  15. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this post, as it's something I've been thinking about lately. I just started going to the gym again and started working with a personal trainer at my gym. I feel like I've lost several inches and a few pounds. My biggest issue has been food. I eat out A LOT, and eat just because I'm craving something. And your right, eating crap food makes me feel so gross. Your post is exactly what my trainer was talking to me about and it kind of just clicked for me, thank you so much! Here's to changing my relationship with food.
